Maybe you’re the type of person who doesn’t care about football. Or who doesn’t like social gatherings. In my experience, here’s the thing you should do on Super Bowl Sunday, but ONLY during the game: go to the grocery store.
If you’ve ever dreamed of having an entire supermarket to yourself, then during the Super Bowl is the premiere time to go. You can waltz among the aisles, no one will get in your way. Feel like reading every single cereal label without being pressured? Knock yourself out. Do you want to bust out a magnifying glass and look for blemishes in fruit? This is your time! Have you always dreamed of going through every carton of milk hoping to find the magical one that somehow doesn’t expire for four months? You can make it happen.
I guarantee going to the supermarket during the Super Bowl will be the most fulfilling grocery store trip of your life. Maybe you will regret missing the game and not knowing what everyone is talking about on Monday. Or maybe everyone else will be jealous when you describe the oasis of an empty grocery store.
I know it’s a lot to sacrifice, but I just wanted to plant the seed. Next year, when you’re sitting at that Super Bowl party and you need something to stop you from going back for fourths from the crockpot of barbecue meatballs (kudos Galvins or Leskas — whoever made those) volunteer to go pick up some ice. Trust me, it will be worth your time. It’s a rare miracle that will stay with you much longer than any one Super Bowl ever could.
